How Our AMSOIL Journey Began: A Story of Performance and Savings

A few years ago now, I was approached to take over a small offroad club in Minnesota, while serving as the IT Manager for MN4WDA. However,it was during a MN4WDA Swap Meet where I first met Mike and Linda Ford. See, initially, my goal was simple: offer our Mill City Offroad club members some perks. Little did I know, this meeting would spark a journey that would lead my wife and I to AMSOIL.

Through a series of events, none of which were planned, I started a landscaping business—Mill City Landscaping. Remember, I told you that I met Mike and Linda Ford at a MN4WDA? Well a few days earlier, I had been told that the company I had worked for for nearly 7 years would be laying me off the following month. About 8 months prior, I had started doing some snow removal as a side-hustle. However, in the months to follow our run-in with Mike and Linda, 2 large commercial landscaping accounts would fall in our laps.

Now that I have set the stage a little bit, Becky and I had slowly began using AMSOIL in some of our equipment, but it wasn’t until an AMSOIL event that I truly realized the potential of their products. There, I had the chance to speak with a fellow landscaping professional who shared his success with AMSOIL Saber. I also spoke with Len, one of AMSOIL's lead engineers, about the Saber product. Inspired by these conversations, I returned home ready to put AMSOIL to the test.

At that time, I was struggling with the costs and complications of maintaining my equipment. I had two non-English speaking laborers working for me, as well as my dad, who had recently retired and was dealing with memory loss due to a stroke. These challenges highlighted the need to streamline our maintenance and fueling processes.

One of the first changes I made was to simplify our fueling practices. Instead of carrying two separate 5-gallon gasoline containers—one for regular fuel and one for 2-stroke mix—I decided to use AMSOIL Saber 2-stroke mix at the recommended 100:1 ratio in both cans. This decision was a game-changer. Most of our hand tools required mix gas, and with AMSOIL Saber, we no longer had to worry about running out of fuel or using the wrong gas. The 12.8oz bottle of Saber was perfect for filling both containers, making our operations smoother and more efficient.

Another significant change was switching from premium fuel (91 octane) to a lower-grade option. In Minnesota, where I live, the lowest grade available is 87 octane with 10% ethanol, but I decided to go with 88 octane, which contains 15% ethanol and is even cheaper. Thanks to AMSOIL's high-quality Saber product, I was able to make this switch without compromising performance. This saved me around $20 every time I filled up, just on the price difference alone.

The savings didn’t stop there. Previously, I was spending about $15 per bottle of 2-stroke oil from other brands. With AMSOIL, I was able to purchase the Saber product for just $9.99 per 12.8oz bottle, which covered two 5-gallon containers of mix fuel—just $5 per container! This meant I was saving an additional $10 per container per refuel. Altogether, I was saving close to $40-50 per week, or around $215 per month. These savings were equivalent to maintaining an additional client!

But it wasn’t just about the money. AMSOIL's products simplified my maintenance routines and reduced the time I spent sourcing different oils. The convenience of ordering directly from AMSOIL and having products delivered within two business days was a major time-saver. With AMSOIL's guaranteed product quality and robust warranty, I had peace of mind knowing I was using the best for my equipment.

This was just the beginning of our AMSOIL journey. As we continued to explore other products, AMSOIL consistently met or exceeded our expectations. What started as a simple perk for our offroad club members turned into a crucial part of our business and daily life, bringing both performance and savings to the forefront.

Stay tuned, there’s more to this story.
